West Kootenay Rock Guide

The updates for the West Kootenay Rock Guide are now available on-line. The free PDF download includes over 160 routes which have been put up in the West Kootenay region of south-central British Columbia in the past two years.

The updates also include corrections to information that appeared in the West Kootenay Rock Guide and an appendix that lists every route in the region by grade.

A colour, printed version of the updates is being completed and will include topo photos of the crags and routes. It will be available wherever the West Kootenay Rock Guide is sold. (See list below.)

West Kootenay Rock Guide

The West Kootenay Rock Guide is a full-colour, 160-page, perfect-bound publication that includes summaries of 22 rock climbing areas and over 400 routes in South-Central British Columbia. Climbs in and around Nelson, Castlegar, Kaslo, Rossland and Slocan City, including the Valhalla Mountain range, are showcased along with tales of the rich climbing history in the region. (Did you know Kinnaird Bluffs in Castlegar was once the site of the hardest climb in Western Canada?)

The book was researched and written by local climbers and route developers Aaron Kristiansen and Vince Hempsall and it features colour-coded route topos that are so easy to use, they’ll do everything but climb for you.
